A day to be thankful.
All of us are here on this planet because of a MOTHER. Whether it was your biological mother that raised you, or someone else, take a moment today to say thank you to that person who served as your motherly figure.
For me, there have been a few.
A few moms have entered my life throughout my journey and they have played the role well. That is not the case for everyone. Some have only had one mom. Others perhaps two. I once met a man who went through NINE foster homes from the age of 5 through 16. A few of the moms gave up on him, a few others tried to adopt him, but legal issues stood in the way. He told me that he still talks to many of them. They influenced him. They had a huge impact, and they helped to shape him into the man he is today.
Another man that I know, similar age to myself, was around his mom for the first several years of his life and then he moved to Africa with his father. The story is not so clear as to why she did not go with them, but what is clear is that he had no contact with her for several years. Around the age of 11 to 12, he moved back to the United States. She was present again, but not really PRESENT. His parents would eventually divorce, and the story becomes more sticky from there. But for him, it was just never the same. Too many unanswered questions. Too many differences. Too many let downs. Not enough love. For him, others would step in and play mom along the way.
Each of us has our own unique story, and odds are that within that story there was someone who you leaned on, learned from, and received love from…
If your mother wasn’t there for you and or your relationship is not what you always wanted it to be…it’s okay…your not alone. Life isn’t perfect. It is not supposed to be.
If you are currently a mom, then take a moment to think about what it really means. Think about what you do daily to lead your family. Take a moment to thank yourself. Even if you have made a mistake or two, lost your patience once or twice, and yelled at the top of your lungs…let it go knowing that the men in the world have done so much worse.
Here is to a great Mother’s Day, especially to all those moms out there that are always looking for ways to do more, to be better, and to love without any strings attached. God Bless you.
