Change can be quite difficult for many of us. We get used to a routine. Our habits become our LIFE. We get consumed by doing things over and over again, even if the results we get are not what we desire.
One of my all-time favorite quotes is: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” I have witnessed it in my own actions, and I see it everyday in the patients that I treat and the people that I work with. All of us possess this weakness, some more than others.
It is quite a tragedy. It often comes down to believing that you cannot do something new, or different, or better than you have already done it.
One big piece to this puzzle of change is being able to lose CONTROL. To let go of those things that consume us day after day. The only way to accept something new as a possibility is to step back and obtain a new perspective. There really is not much more to it than that.
Some change takes time. There is indeed a PROCESS involved with any type of change, yet some types of change can often be completed without much effort. The challenge of it all is the ability to being open to the idea of something NEW. Of being comfortable with the decision and the new habit that will eventually follow.
One way or another, change is often something that is indeed needed. If you view it as just another piece of the PROCESS, odds are it won’t be that difficult for you.
Take that first step. Think about 1, 3 or even 5 things in your life RIGHT NOW that require even just a little change. And then go to work. Create an outline of ideas on how to implement that change. You don’t have to achieve it in one day, or even one week. And remember, if it doesn’t work out, there will indeed be other alternatives and more opportunities.
I will meet you on the other side.
